Moving and spring cleaning

This post was sponsored by GOJO, the makers of PURELL® products, and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

It’s almost move-in day!

Did y’all see how fast our new house is coming along? We’ve been checking on construction every week and each time we’re surprised with how much progress there’s been. Right now the walls are up and painted, the cabinets and shelving are installed in every room, and the exterior is almost complete too! They still need to do floors, counters, lights, and switches but it’s starting to feel very real. Our move-in date should be in one month.

Needless to say, we have a lot of preparing to do. We have been decluttering, organizing, and sprucing up our current rental, disinfecting and cleaning the house with PURELL® products.

Spring cleaning

When you move, it’s always a great opportunity to organize and get rid of all the extra stuff that’s built up. I’m going through every closet, using three boxes to organize. One to donate, one to throw away, and one to keep. It’s been very nice doing that, and we’ve donated 4 big boxes so far to our local thrift store. I’m sentimental, though, so this process is hard for me. I’m always finding things I just can’t donate even though we never use them. Oh well! I’m sure a lot of you can relate.

Additionally, we’ve also been doing some deep-cleaning. We clean a lot everyday but I’ve been wanting to really hit those spots that we miss with daily cleaning like wall trim, behind the toilets, inside the cabinets, the toaster oven, etc… To tackle this I use PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant, which I’ve mentioned in a past blog post. It’s a favorite at our house because even though it’s a disinfectant spray, it has no harsh fumes or chemicals and be used around pets and kids, and well… we have two cats and two kids. It lets me disinfect and clean all those areas with peace of mind.

Despite disinfecting without using bleach, PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant works really well. I use it on food-prep surfaces and kids toys without the worry that a bleach cleaner brings.

The importance of disinfecting

Pro-tip: There are a lot of important spots to hit when cleaning your house. Most important is to disinfect items that a lot of people touch like remote controls, door knobs, cellphones, and shopping cart handles. For instance, we always wipe down the shopping cart before we go shopping.

If you’ve been to our place, you know that the first thing you’ll see at the entrance is a PURELL® Advanced Hand Sanitizer dispenser on the wall. In my experience, it makes it easier for people to remember to use hand sanitizer if it’s easily visible and accessible. That’s a good habit we got into, and it’s especially important because we have people coming in and out of our house a lot with Charlie having therapy here. PURELL® Advanced Hand Sanitizer kills 99.99% of the germs that can cause illness – the exact type of illness that is such a drag when it passes through your family

Oh, and another tip for you: keep a bottle of PURELL® Advanced Hand Sanitizer in your car. We actually have 1 in each door pocket of each car, so that whichever family member is getting in the car they can sanitize their hands if they want if they’re coming from a public place. It may seem excessive but believe me, we’re rarely sick and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

I can’t wait to show y’all our new house. Stay tuned and watch my Instagram stories to see the construction progress. Happy spring-cleaning!
