Boys and princess dresses
Jude is a boy. He loves cars, dinosaurs, soccer, and superheroes. Jude also loves princesses, dressing up, dancing, and the color pink.
A while back, Jude asked us for a pink princess dress. So we got it for him. Why not?
Girls wear pirate costumes and no one bats an eye, but boys can’t wear princess dresses for fun? When we received the dress in the mail, he was so happy he teared up. He was absolutely beaming, and twirled around the entire house.
I didn’t “do anything” to my son. HE wanted to dance around with that dress. What’s the harm? It’s not possible to “turn someone gay,” nor would it be a problem if he one day finds himself to be. Either way, I’ll like him and love him the same amount, and any parent who wouldn’t doesn’t deserve the title.
Jude is 3. It’s innocent. Especially at this age, him liking to paint his nails, dance, and the color “pink” says nothing other than exactly that. Kids aren’t born inherently knowing society’s gender roles and expectations. They’re enthusiastic and filled with wonder, and if they like something, they want it. It’s that simple. As long as Jude’s not putting himself in danger, I’ll always encourage him to express himself however he wants.

2022-08-04 at 9:52 PMAwww thanks for sharing your story. My nephew is the same. He’s recently taken to wearing his younger sister’s dresses. My sister thought it was a phase so we didn’t let him but he got too distressed to the point that he was constantly humming and shouting. For his peace of mind I told my sister let him wear the dress. I think that’s stemming from him liking bright colours and being summer he enjoys these outfits. By the way, he loves pink and also loves dancing and singing too. I don’t think he has gay tendencies and even if he does that’s fine. I love him so much. I think he is trying to communicate his vibrant personality and I think it’s absolutely no harm in letting him express himself. At the end of the day many artists don’t use words to bring their vivid imagination to life. This is akin to his artistic talent.
