Don’t let fear dictate your every move

“What good are wings without the courage to fly?”

There are moments in our lives that shape us. Moments that push us to better ourselves — to step out of our comfort zone. I had one of these a few months ago. It changed me, truly. I was daydreaming and realized that the only thing preventing me from making these moments a reality was fear. I grasped that I had barely been living the past few years because fear was dictating my every move, or lack thereof. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of being misunderstood, and judged. ⁣⁣
Fear is that little voice inside your mind trying to protect you, but limiting you. You don’t have to listen to it. You can tell your fear to go fly a kite — in fact, you should. ⁣⁣
You know what else you should do? You should tell the people you love that they matter to you, even if you’re afraid they’ll cringe and run away because you’re too emotional. You should get on that plane, even if you’re scared shitless. And you should also apply for that job you’ve been dreaming of, even if you’re afraid of being told ‘no.’ Take risks. You will fail sometimes, there’s no denying it, but what your fear isn’t telling you is that you will grow from it. You’ll be okay, no matter what happens. ⁣⁣
Don’t be the person who plays it safe, the one who’s still wondering “what if,” because they never took a chance. Be the one who tries, the one who takes risks. Look fear in the eye, and go against its advice, even if every fiber of your being is begging you to stay grounded in your comfort zone. ⁣⁣
At the end of the day, it’s pretty simple. If you want to experience the things that send shivers down your spine and put sparkles in your eyes, you have to take risks. Believe me, the pain you’ll feel if your expectations aren’t met is nothing compared to the slow torture from that whisper in your mind of ‘what if?’ ⁣
