Are you thinking about Christmas yet?

I’m part of a few mom groups on Facebook and everyone’s already been talking about Christmas for weeks. Admittedly, I’m not much of a planner. I’m the kind of mom who has an oh shoot, it’s Christmas in a week moment every year. This year, though, I decided I wasn’t going to be this mom. I’m hoping that planning my toy shopping early will make this holiday season less stressful.

When it comes to toys, I’m picky. I like toys that are interactive and fun, but that also help the boys learn different skills. The boys have always been interested in music, their daddy is a great musician (guitar, bass, and trombone) and their grandpa is a professional pianist. To help Charlie and Jude learn about music, we got the Think & Learn Rocktopus™

How we use our Rocktopus™ to teach the boys about music

First of all, I was pleasantly surprised by the volume. When we get a new toys that makes noise, one of my fears is that it’s going to be so loud and, let’s be real, incredibly annoying. If you’re a mom, I’m sure you too have that one toy that you hid in the back of the closet because you couldn’t bear the noise anymore. Luckily, the Think & Learn Rocktopus™ has the perfect volume level, and even on the louder of the two modes, it’s totally bearable and the sounds themselves are enjoyable.

The Rocktopus has three modes: Math, Play, and Music. The boys’ favorite is definitely Music. It teaches them how each instrument sounds and even lets them compose their own tune. Maybe we’re raising the next Mozart?

How to use the Rocktopus?

The Rocktopus comes with 15 different musical instruments inserts. When your kiddo inserts an instrument into the octopus, then a little tune from that instrument plays. Your child is the DJ, and the octopus will only play songs using the instruments inserted. You can change instruments while the the song is playing, too, which really allows you to hear how each instrument affects a song.

I love how Jude dances when a song comes on, it’s really sweet. It’s also been a great toy to practice turn taking since Charlie and Jude fight over it.

A great Christmas present

I’d say this is the perfect gift for music lovers, and kiddos between the age of 3 and 8 but then again, older kids may enjoy it too as there is a composing element to it. Head to your local Walmart and add Rocktopus™ to your Christmas shopping list!

This looks fantastic. We’ve been looking for one more special item for our son and this might be a winner!
